Glin Heritage Walking Trails

Glin Heritage Walks offer a wide variety of spectacular coastal and woodland scenery. Glin, a picturesque village on the Shannon Estuary, can boast a very rich and varied culture dating back to the early Celtic settlements of the Corbry Clan. Formerly known as Glencorbry, Glin has been the ancestral home to the Knights of Glin since C13th. Descendents of the FitzGeralds of Desmond, the Knights 'old' and 'new' castles bear witness to our historic past.

Fishing

West Limerick offers the full spectrum of angling challenge. The Shannon Estuary with its 50 miles of tidal water, from Loop Head to Limerick City, is one of Ireland's top class in-shore angling waters. Apart from offering great fishing for tope, ray, bull hoss, ling and cougar, the estuary is also relatively sheltered and is fishable in most weather conditions. The Shannon Estuary also offers wonderful shore angling from easily accessible rocks and beaches at Foynes, Kilteery and Glin. A resident pod of about 100 Bottlenose Dolphins has become a big attraction in the mouth of the Estuary, and they are always glad to welcome anglers to their rich feeding grounds.

Dolphin Watching

Ireland's only resident group of over 100 bottlenose dolphins live in the Shannon Estuary. The magnificent dolphins can be observed, on most days, feeding, travelling and playing. They can be viewed from the boats that undertake special tours and every encounter with the dolphins is different, determined by the dolphins themselves.
