Fishing

West Limerick offers the full spectrum of angling challenge. The Shannon Estuary with its 50 miles of tidal water, from Loop Head to Limerick City, is one of Ireland's top class in-shore angling waters. Apart from offering great fishing for tope, ray, bull hoss, ling and cougar, the estuary is also relatively sheltered and is fishable in most weather conditions. The Shannon Estuary also offers wonderful shore angling from easily accessible rocks and beaches at Foynes, Kilteery and Glin. A resident school of about 70 Bottlenose Dolphins has become a big attraction in the mouth of the Estuary, and they are always glad to welcome anglers to their rich feeding grounds.

Glasha Lake Trout Fishing Centre near Athea offers a lake which is fully stocked with brown trout. Open seven days from 10am to dusk.

Ireland's only resident group of over 100 bottlenose dolphins live in the Shannon Estuary. The magnificent dolphins can be observed, on most days, feeding, travelling and playing.
